Der Kampf der Häuptlinge hardcover with 4 titles on the back

Beitrag: # 30690Beitrag walter »

Dear German Asterix fans

I have a question about the hardcover version of Der Kampf der Häuptlinge with four titles listed in the back. I own two such copies, but the are different.

The first one has TWO lines of text on page 2:

Herausgeben vom EHAPA-VERLAG GMBH, Stuttgart. Anschrift: 7 Stuttgart 1, Postfach 1215.
Druck: Henri Proost u. Co., Turnhout. Gedruckt in Belgien. Copyright 1969 by Dargaud S.A. Paris

The second one has FOUR lines of text on page 2:

Herausgeben vom EHAPA-VERLAG GMBH, 7 Stuttgart 1, Postfach 1215.
Druck: Henri Proost u. Co., Turnhout. Gedruckt in Belgien.
C Dargaud S.A. - Paris 1966.
C EHAPA - VERLAG STUTTGART 1969

Which one is the oldest, or are the both original?

Many thanks,

Walter Habraken

Dear Walter,

this is an interesting issue! According to my knowledge (which is public available at http://www.michael.striewe-online.de/index.php?id=31 but far away from being complete regarding the hardcover editions), the two line version was the one used in 1969 and early 1970. At least, both Die Goldene Sichel and Tour de France have been published in 1970 and use the two line version, too.

The four line version has also been used in 1970, at least at the second edition of Die goldene Sichel, which had already 7 titles on the backlist. And that's the funny thing: It would be incomprehensible if Ehapa has published Der Kampf der Häuptlinge in 1969 with a four line version and other titles in 1970 with the older two line version again. But it would be equally incomprehensible if Ehapa has published Der Kampf der Häuptlinge in 1970 with just 4 titles on the backlist.

Walter, can you do me a favour and make a scan of cover, backlist and page 2 from the four line version, so I can add it to the database on my web page?

Best regards
Michael

Dear Michael,

Thank you very much for your answer. I regularly watch your website about the softcover editions and I glad to provide the scans and help extending the hardcover part. I send them tonight to your email.

I found two other interesting thing about old German hardcovers:

Asterix als Gladiator 7 titles with French order exists in two versions.

A four line version and a two line version. Moreover the four line version has the logo of the Dutch publisher Geïllustreerde Pers on the title page.

Asterix der Gallier 7 titles with French order exists in two versions.

One has blue printed letters for the text: Text Goscinny, Zeichnungen Uderzo the other has black letters.

Regards,

Walter

Then we have three versions! The one recorded on my web page (http://www.michael.striewe-online.de/in ... detail=h90) is neither a two line version nor does it have a Durch publisher logo on the title page... That's weird!

Yes, that's strange. Probably the Belgian printer noticed and corrected their mistake.
